Upcoming Programs

Sunday, December 6, 2009, 10:00 am: "Our Lady of Hope Clinic," presented by Dr. Michael Kloess. Our Lady of Hope Clinic is the area's only full-time free clinic for the uninsured. Funded primarily by benefactors—whose support qualifies them to receive their own primary care at the clinic—Our Lady of Hope Clinic aims to provide more than 3,000 free visits for those in need annually. Dr. Michael Kloess will discuss the clinic's unique and timely mission. Dr. Kloess received his medical degree from Southern Illinois University in 2000. Following his residency at Siouxland Medical Education Foundation, he worked as a family practice physician in Richland Center and in urgent care at Marshfield Clinic. His medical interests include women's health, wilderness medicine and medical ethics. He also participates in medical mission trips to Central America.

Sunday, December 13, 2009, 10:00 am: "Iraq Today: A Peacemaker's Eyewitness Report," presented by Sami Rasouli. Mr. Rasouli will speak about the Muslim Peacemaker Teams in Iraq and the building of peaceful relationships between the people of Iraq and the people of the United States through the Iraqi Art Project, the Sister City Project, Water for Peace, and Letters for Peace (www.mpt-iraq.org/) Sami Rasouli, an Iraqi-American, left Iraq in the late 1970s and lived in the Twin Cities area for more than 17 years. In November 2004, nearly 30 years after leaving, Sami returned to Iraq to help rebuild his country. During this time, he founded and supported the development of the Muslim Peacemaker Teams, groups dedicated to principles of nonviolence. He recently brought a delegation of thirteen Iraqis from the city of Najaf to the city of Minneapolis as a part of the Sister City Project.

Sunday, December 20, 2009, "Symbol Tree," presented by Rev. Ralph Tyksinski. This Sunday will be our traditional Symbol Tree intergenerational service where all (including children) are welcome to come forward, share some words with the congregation, and place a related symbol on the tree.

Thursday, December 24, 2009, 7:00 pm: “Christmas Eve, Carols, and Candlelighting,” presented by Rev. Ralph Tyksinski. We celebrate with readings, singing of carols, and candlelighting, the story of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. In the words of Sophia Lyon Fahs, “Each night a child is born is a holy night – A time for singing, A time for wondering, A time for worshipping.” This, an intergenerational service, draws from Christian teachings which call us to respond to holy love by seeking peace and good will for humankind.
